The Me + Music Tag | The 2022 Edition | feat. my musical obsessions

Hello again, dear readers. The other day I realized that it has been weeks since I last posted something that was not a book review and…I loved this tag a couple of years ago and thought that it was past time to bring it back – in an abbreviated form.

So let’s jump in!!

[Check out the 2020 edition here: Part One + Part Two]

Rules

(1) Link back to original (Sophie @ Me and Ink) so she can see your answers and listen to the tunes.

(2) For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs (you can use Sophie’s graphics).

(3) Have fun and play your music LOUD!

I love old music – I’ll classify old music as at least fifty or sixty years old, for this prompt! As a side note: my parents always laugh when my siblings and I call something dropped/released merely a year or two ago, old. Are we the only ones who, almost subconsciously, do this?

Snow – Rosemary Clooney | It won’t be long before we’ll all be there with snow / Snow, snow, I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow

Runnin’ Out of Fools – Aretha Franklin | Sure you haven’t got the wrong number / Sure it’s me you want to talk to tonight / Everyone in town’s got your number

Think – Aretha Franklin | You better think / Think about what you’re trying to do to me /
Let your mind go, let yourself be free

To be honest, I do not pay much attention to “the charts,” most of the time, but recently there have been a handful of songs that I genuinely love in “the charts.”

We Don’t Talk About Bruno – Encanto Cast | It was our wedding day, we were getting ready, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky / Grew to live in fear of Bruno stuttering or stumbling, I could always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling / He told me that the life of my dreams would be promised, and someday be mine, he told me that my power would grow, like the grapes that thrive on the vine

[I absolutely love the entire Encanto soundtrack, and I am not exaggerating even slightly in saying that we listened to it for hours and hours every single day for weeks and weeks.]

Easy On Me – Adele | There ain’t no gold in this river, that I’ve been washin’ my hands in forever / I had good intentions and the highest hopes / But I know right now, that probably doesn’t even show

[I must admit to be mostly over the latest phase of obsessive listening to Adele, but I still love this song.]

Now this is almost impossible; I am someone who absolutely loves musicals, and after watching a musical I enjoy I can easily listen to the soundtrack on repeat for weeks. How could I ever pick only five songs as my favorite songs from movies etc.?

Carnaval del Barrio – In The Heights | What’s this tontería that I’m seeing on the street / I never thought I’d see the day… / Since when are Latin people scared of heat?! / My mom is Dominican-Cuban, My dad is from Chile and P.R., Which means: I’m Chile-…Dominica-Rican! / But I always say I’m from Queens!

[I love this song so much! and I really struggled to choose a couple of lyrics to share, I wanted to share about half of the song.]

So Long Dearie – Barbra Streisand [Hello Dolly] | Wave your little hand and whisper so long dearie, you ain’t gonna see me anymore /And when you discover that your life is dreary, don’t you come knockin’ at my door

[Whenever we listen to this song together, my siblings and I always laugh remembering the scene in the movie – in my opinion the funniest part of Hello Dolly!]

This is an easy one! I love songs about love, but there are really only a couple that have me hooked at the moment.

Dandelions – Ruth B. | Maybe it’s the way you say my name / Maybe it’s the way you play your game / But it’s so good, I’ve never known anybody like you, but it’s so good, I’ve never dreamed of nobody like you / And I’ve heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime, and I’m pretty sure that you are that love of mine

Favourite – Ruth B. | Rough around the edges, hates when people see him weak / He writes poetry, but no one knows, I think I love him ’cause no one knows

Since the last time that I did this tag, the number of albums I listen to have dramatically increased, but I am still quite picky and more often then not will delete a couple of songs from an album before I listen to it repeatedly.

Moments in Between [The Deluxe Special Edition]– Ruth B.

RESPECT (soundtrack) – Jennifer Hudson

Homecoming (Live) – Bethel Music

My latest musical obsessions seems to be a wonderful topic to bring this tag to a close, so here we are.

rubberband – Tate McRea | Was it a wasted couple months? / Sneaking outta the window, spending nights in limbo / Was it all there was for us? / Midnight driving, running through highland

[Last week, I added a few of Tate’s songs to my music library and ended up listening to them about thirty times. What can I say? There really is something about her music.]

The 90s – FINNEAS | All the time I should’ve been so happy, I was here / Wasting it on worrying, just made it disappear / When your heart starts to harden / Lay your guard down in your garden/ Same backyard, but we are not home

I tag..

Bree @ Laughs and Literature | Jael @ The Christian Girl With the Iced Coffee

Evin @ A Curly Sue’s Ramblings | Ryan Elizabeth @ ryan elizabeth writes.

Kailey @ Listening to the Sky | Emily Charlotte @ Emily Charlotte

  1. AGHHH THIS IS SO AMAZING. Thank you so much for tagging me!!! < 3
I too have listened to the Encanto soundtrack for hours & hours for weeks & weeks. It is fantastic. Outside of that, I've recently been quite in love with anything by The Oh Hellos & much of the music by The Paper Kites!

Your new blog designs are absolutely beautiful; April did an amazing job!

      1. Oo, so have you heard The Joker And The Queen with Taylor Swift?? I’ve been playing it a lot lately. As well as Let Your Love Be Strong by Switchfoot. Such good songs 🙂
