Black & White Photography – Part 2 | feat. questions answered by me

Hello again, lovely people. I hope that you are warm and dry on this chilly and messy February day. After taking the photos I shared last week, I decided to take a handful more to share with you all. There is something fascinating about the fact that random things around the house somehow become interesting when they are the focus a picture, and then stripped of color.

I am aware of irony of the fact that I keep sharing tags/awards despite saying that I have mixed feelings about them, I truly do alternate between enjoying them and finding them mildly annoying. I suppose it is in part simply that I did not have any other good ideas of things to share with these photos. I also always appreciate the thought when someone nominates me. Regardless, I guess we ought to get on with this post; Thank you to Megan, for your kind words and the nomination! I quite enjoyed putting this together and I hope that you enjoy reading it as well.

Liebster Award Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  2. Answer the eleven questions from the person who nominated you.
  3. Give between five and eleven random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 5-11 fellow bloggers with less than or around 200 followers.
  5. Last, but certainly not least, ask your nominees between five and eleven questions.

Questions:

To start us off….how are you doing today?

I am doing rather well today. It was almost warm outside and, despite the messy, slushy snow on the ground, the birds were singing.

What is your favourite book (besides the Bible, of course)?

This is an impossible question to answer as this changes often, but….my current favorite book is hands down, Lady Jane Disappears by Joanna Davidson Politano. It is simply beautiful and I have taken too underlining the many sentences that stand out to me.

How did you begin your blogging journey?

I first discovered blogging through the blog Wednesdays With Nancy (no longer in use, but still a great resource for tweens) and, after doing a guest blog post, quickly realized that I wanted to become a blogger in my own right. I started blogging a few years ago at my previous site before moving here.

If you could visit one event in history, what would it be?

Hmmm…..that’s another tough question. I would love to have heard Martin Luther King jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech. It is powerful and inspiring, and an incredibly important piece of recent history.

What’s your favourite season and what do you like about it?

I honestly could never pick a favorite season. Each season has it blessings and difficulties. I appreciate many things about winter, spring is the time of new life, summer sunshine is simply lovely and the colors of fall are beautiful.

Do you play any instruments? If you don’t, what would you play if you could play anything?

I don’t play any instruments, although I attempted to teach myself piano recently and took lessons years ago. I would love to be able to actually play piano.

What is your favourite verse or passage of scripture, and why?

I cannot say that I have any specific favorite pieces of scripture, but my favorite book of the Bible is easily Psalms.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and who would you go with?

I was actually just discussing traveling with a close friend of mine. We were talking about visiting England and Japan. (Our plans include book stores and possible bungee jumping.)

What motivates you?

I honestly couldn’t say exactly……I guess it just depends on what it is we are talking about. My enjoyment of school and the possibility of college motivates me to do my studies (in other words, just about all of my school) and the fact that my family enjoys my cooking/baking motivates me to bake/cook regularly.

Do you have a favourite quote or saying?

I do not have a favorite quote or saying but I loved this Joanna Davidson Politano quote I discovered today: “Life is deep,…..which is why books are such a lifeline. Stepping into the pages of someone else’s story means joining them in their normal life and pretending that you, for one liberating moment, will also become whole and healthy and wonderfully normal by the end.”

And a classic to finish off… if you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three things with you (other than food, water, clothes and a Bible) what would you take?

Hmmm….probably to begin, a thick journal and pens (is that actually two things?), Lady Jane Disappears and maybe my favorite mug.

Random Facts About Me:

I strongly dislike texting, and I am terrible at responding. I also dislike FaceTiming and phone calls. My preferred way to communicate long-distance is on paper, otherwise known as good old-fashioned letter writing. Nothing compares to the joy of seeing a letter in your mailbox from someone who you care about.

One of my current favorite meals is beef stew; small pieces of tender meat with potatoes and carrots in a lovely tomato stock. It is simply so delicious and nourishing. (I never thought I would love beef as much as I do, but my appreciation for my family’s delicious food only increases as I get older.)

I am the oldest of a large (and growing) family and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am so grateful for the love I am surrounded with.

I am sure you already know this, but…I love words and stories. Reading has been part of my life for as long as I can really remember and I am so grateful for the stories that have encouraged me, challenged me and excited my already active imagination throughout the years.

  1. Psalms! Such a good book of the Bible. 🙂

I also don’t like texting, but it’s mostly because I always sound ridiculously awkward. XD

Beef stew! Beef stew is the best.

Your pictures are beautiful! It’s so strange how photographing something in black and white makes it somehow…more than it was before.

  2. I loved seeing your photography Esmeralda! Black and white pictures are so cool, and I love how yours turned out ❤️

I feel the same way about tags and awards 😂 one moment I love writing about a tag/award, then I can take a month off from posting any like it’s nothing! haha
I’ve never heard of Lady Jayne Disappears, but I’ll have to look it up! 😊 it sounds like a great read.

We haven’t gotten any snow where I live, but it has been quite cold. As for a fact about me: I’m reading Jane in Love by Rachel Givney at the moment! It’s a delightful romance so far 😄💕
